Back in 2015 I designed a custom circuit for Joe, which also included Custom Designed Mercury Magnetics Transformers & we installed this into (2) Marshall JCM800 2203x Reissue amps. Fast forward - Joe wanted some additional control over the low end & lower midrange frequencies. We designed & installed 2 new additional control features effectively allowing Joe to be able to control how much low end & lower mids he wants in his tone. As per his request we installed them on the front panel of the amps for easy access. Pictured in this photo is an older vintage Super PA amp that we have Modified in the past. It was getting a retube & we also have some more work we are doing (more to follow shortly). In addition to that we retubed & biased some amps, performed work on others as well as the sweetening up the rig over all. Note – While there is a Variac that can be seen in this photo it is for tech work only. IE: There are no Variacs in Joe Perry’s or Brad Whitford’s rigs. Having been present for some writing & arranging as well as having heard a track that they cut while playing live off the studio floor, I have to say that tones were nothing short of amazing! It's an amazing show with top quality musicianship, amazing songs & a stunning array of cherry-picked vintage guitar gear. I'm a gear head & being able to look through Peter's rig was a true pleasure. Both Steve & Peter have amazing guitars on tour but there were (2) that personally spoke to me. The '54 Gibson Les Paul Black Beauty that is pictured on the album cover of 'Frampton Comes Alive' is on tour & being played every night as is the '62 Gibson SG that Peter used in Humble Pie. Naturally the older Modded Marshalls (we did not Mod them), Dumble Modded 68' Fender Deluxe, Leslies, vintage effects & more were to die for. A very special thanks to Peter Frampton who's incredibly funny, gracious & extremely talented, Aidan Mullen who is Peter's Guitar Tech (much love to you friend) & the entire touring crew for both Frampton & Steve Miller. It was a true pleasure in every way & great for the soul. Amp on the left is the amp used on the marking of Aerosmith’s ‘Pump’ record ($395 for the Mod), amp on the right is 1 of 3 Super PA amps we over hauled-&-Modified for Aerosmith’s world tour last year. Both amps contain Master Volumes among other Mods.   Joe Perry Modded Tone Bender Pedal – Here’s a quick pic taken on stage of a Tone Bender Replica pedal that Trace had Modded several years back. Joe is using it in his live rig again on the Hollywood Vampires Tour. - “I used to Mod pedals many years ago & only do so on very rare occasions these days. I reviewed my original Mod Notes & it was given to us because it would squeal uncontrollably when turned on making it unusable. It was all hand wired with (3) germanium transistors. I was given car blanch so I voiced it to a schematic I had made of the best sounding Tone Bender pedal that I’d worked on years prior. I wasn't keen on the type of caps used so I changed all the cap types & tweaked the circuit so all the gain was usable.
